TAIBACH 29 POINTS, NANTYFYLLON 22 POINTS.

DIV. 3 WEST CENTRAL “A”.

Taibach moved up to second place in Division 3 West Central “A” beating  Nantyfyllon 29-22 at the Plough, with the boot of Taibach outside half Aaron Jones being the deciding factor, kicking five penalties and two conversions. In the first quarter, it was Nanty who had the upper hand territorially, but it was the “Tigers” who led 6-3 with two penalties from outside half Aaron Jones with one from Nanty outside half Tad McGuckin. With the first half coming to an end, Nanty took the lead when wing Chad George crossed for a try and score of 6-8.                                                                         The lead was increased three minutes into the second half with another Tad McGuckin penalty, but Taibach regained the lead with Aaron Jones slotting over three penalties for a 15-11 lead. Nanty pulled back to within one point with an Evan Bryce penalty, but five minutes later, a Taibach forward drive, started on the twenty two, and as it reached the visitors try line, referee Mark Evans had no hesitation in awarding a penalty try as a forward entered the maul from the side, causing it to collapse. Outside half Aaron Jones converted for a Taibach lead of 22-14. With three minutes remaining, Evan Bryce kicked another Nanty penalty, but from the kick off, Taibach won the ball on the Nanty twenty two and second row Ashley Jones made a break, dummied, then fed scrum half Kyle Jenkins who broke away to score a try, converted by Aaron Jones and a 29-17 lead. Play was now well into injury time and the final play of the day saw Nanty’s Evan Bryce chip the ball over defenders and touchdown for a try, but it was a winning score to Taibach of 29-22. Taibach now look forward to next Saturday which sees the top verses second, as they travel away to leaders Birchgrove.
